How to care for your Samelin boots (complete guide)

Proper maintenance significantly extends the lifespan of your Samelin boots — and ensures they still look good after years. Here's everything you need to know.

Choosing the right size

Samelin sizes generally run large. The most important thing is that the boot fits well in both length and width. Here's how to measure your foot correctly:

  • Stand on a piece of paper with socks on and trace the outline of both feet
  • Measure the length from heel to the longest toe with a tape measure
  • Preferably measure your feet in the evening, after a day of walking (feet swell slightly then)
  • Order based on your longer foot — most people have a slight difference in length between left and right
  • Compare the measured length with a pair of shoes you wear often, for a more precise estimate
  • Do you use insoles or prefer to wear thicker socks? Then order half a size larger

Maintenance of waterproof nubuck boots with membrane lining

Do not wear the same boots for several days in a row — let them dry thoroughly and clean them before wearing them again. Always fasten all closures (buckles, laces, Velcro) properly before putting them on.

  • Treat your boots immediately after purchase, before first use, with care products specifically for nubuck leather
  • Depending on the weather, also use a water-repellent spray — available at well-stocked shoe stores
  • Store your boots in a dry, well-ventilated place — never dry near a heat source
  • Brush off dust and mud daily, also from the sole edge and tread
  • Never wash in the washing machine or with a lot of water — use nubuck-specific products or a damp cloth
  • If necessary, use shoe deodorant against odors
  • Avoid sharp objects inside the boot — these can damage the membrane lining

Maintenance of leather boots

Again, do not wear for several days in a row, and always dry and clean after use. When putting them on, first loosen all closures, place your foot, and only then fasten.

  • Treat with care products for full-grain leather before first use
  • Depending on the weather, also use water-repellent products
  • Store dry and well-ventilated, never near a heater
  • Clean daily from dust and mud, brush the sole edge and tread
  • Never machine wash or soak — use leather care products or a damp cloth

Please note for Aviator Boots (high and low model): the leather loop at the back is decorative and not intended for pulling. A broken loop is not covered under warranty, but we can repair it for a fee.

Maintenance of insoles

After extended wear, remove the insoles and air them in a well-ventilated place.

  • Hand wash or machine wash at a maximum of 30°C, delicate cycle
  • Do not spin, do not use aggressive detergents
  • Allow to dry at room temperature — avoid sudden temperature changes, as this can damage the material
