M77 vs 2077: the difference between these two Samelin combat boots

Of all the questions we receive about our Military Heritage collection, the most frequently asked is about these two models: what exactly is the difference between the M77 and the 2077? Both come from the same Estonian factory, both are legendary — but they are not the same. Here's the comparison.

The M77: the original

The M77, also known as the "Norwegian Combat Boots," is the model where it all began. More than 50 years ago, the first version was delivered to the Norwegian army, after a ten-year development process during which extremely high demands were placed on wear resistance, comfort, and moisture resistance. The result: a no-nonsense boot made of thick full-grain leather (2.8-3 mm), with a single-layer direct-injected PU sole.

The M77 is stiff, robust, and requires the most breaking-in time of the two — but it wins in terms of authenticity: this is literally the same model still worn today by several NATO armies.

The 2077: the improved version

The 2077 is built on the same last and with the same thick leather as the M77, but with one important modification: a two-layer sole construction instead of a single layer. This makes the 2077 noticeably lighter and more flexible underfoot, without compromising on waterproofing or durability.

For those who want the look and story of the M77, but prefer a boot that breaks in a little faster and feels less stiff, the 2077 is the logical choice.

Choose the M77 if you want the most authentic, military-faithful model and aren't afraid of some break-in time. Choose the 2077 if you prefer immediate comfort and slightly less weight on your feet, without compromising on quality.
